Think all contact lens fittings are the same? Think again!!

Dr. Berns specializes in difficult-to-fit contact lenses. This mean people with astigmatism (all amounts); people with kerataconus; children as young as 5. She regularly fits bifocal contacts and counts many happy disposable contact lens wearers among her patients. And of course, Dr. Berns was the FIRST doctor in this part of Connecticut to offer Vision Shaping lenses – the revolutionary alternative to LASIK which allows people to see all day without glasses or contacts.

Here are some of the more challenging cases that she has fit:

  • A 5-year old boy wearing thick glasses.
  • A 7 year old boy with amblyopia (lazy eye) in one eye only.
  • A 16 year old girl with Nystagmus (involuntary eye movements).
  • A 17 year old with corneal scarring from an eye injury – we fit him in a "cosmetic" lens that masked the disfigurement.
  • A 22 year old man with kerataconus who had never seen well with glasses.
  • A 35 year old woman with six (6) Diopters of astigmatism.
  • A 38 year old woman who had been told she’d never be able to wear contacts.
  • A 45 year old who was struggling with reading glasses on top of his contact lenses – we fit him in bifocal contacts and now he can see the computer as well as the street signs.

If you’ve been told you "can’t wear contacts", you need to check out our professional services.

Of course, we regularly fit ordinary people who just want the BEST in contact lens services for themselves and their children. This means having a vast array of contacts to choose from (not just the ones the corporate headquarters get the best deal on); staff members who patiently teach you how to care for your lenses; and free follow-up visits to make sure your eyes are healthy wearing lenses, and you’re happy with the way you see.
